About This Experience
Malindi's old town is a living palimpsest of coastal history — narrow coral-stone alleys, the 1498 Vasco da Gama Pillar, a working Swahili fish market and mosques that have stood for centuries, all still very much in daily use rather than roped off as a museum piece. This half-day walking tour is led by a Malindi-born guide who takes you beyond the guidebook stops: the spice and fish markets at their morning peak, backstreet workshops where dhows are still built and repaired by hand, and a visit to a local family homestead for spiced Swahili tea and conversation about daily coastal life, craft and cuisine.
